Followers and Announcements
Let people follow your organization, then tell them when a new event opens. How confirmation works, where the follow option appears, and how people unsubscribe.
An audience that stays with the group
Most sign-up tools start every event from zero: you share a link, people sign up, and the next time you need volunteers you go looking for them all over again. Following changes that. People who follow your organization can receive an announcement when you open a new event, and the list belongs to the organization, so it survives when volunteers and board members change.
Following is available on organization workspaces. It is on by default for new organizations.
Where people can follow you
- Your public org page. A short prompt near the top scrolls down to the follow form at the bottom of the page.
- Your event pages. A "More from this group" block sits below the signup form, after the event has had its say.
- The signup form itself. An unchecked box under the contact fields, so someone signing up can opt in at the same time. It is never pre-checked.
Everyone confirms first
Nobody becomes a follower just by typing an address. We email a confirmation link, and the person only joins your list when they tap it. Until then they show as not confirmed on your Followers page and get nothing else from you.
This protects both sides: your list stays made of people who actually asked for it, which keeps your announcements landing in inboxes instead of spam folders, and nobody can sign someone else up using their address.

Confirm your email to follow Lincoln Elementary PTA
One shortcut: if someone opts in while signing up for an event that requires confirmation, the confirmation click covers both. They only get one email.
Telling followers about a new event
Publishing and notifying are separate steps. Nothing is sent automatically when you publish, so an event can go live quietly and be announced when you are ready.
- Open the event and find Notify followers.
- Edit the subject line and add an optional intro.
- Send a test to yourself to see exactly what your followers will get.
- Send. Every follower gets the event details and a signup button.
The page tells you how many people will receive it before you send, and shows the date if this event has already been announced, so a second send is always a deliberate choice.
Managing your followers
Your organization's Followers tab lists everyone with their status, where they followed from, and the date. You can export the list as a CSV, and admins can remove a row.
- Following means confirmed and reachable.
- Not confirmed means the link is still sitting in their inbox. Confirmation links expire after 7 days.
- Unsubscribed means they opted out of your updates. They can follow again later, which starts the confirmation over.
- Undeliverable means the address bounced. We stop mailing it so your other email keeps arriving reliably.
Followers are separate from contacts. A contact is someone who signed up. A follower is someone who asked to hear from you. People can be both, and unsubscribing from updates never removes them from your contacts.
Turning it off
You can hide the follow option on a single event with Show the follow option from this event in the event's settings. Useful for a private or one-time event that should not be recruiting an audience. Private events never show it, whatever the setting says.
To turn following off everywhere, uncheck Let people follow this organization in your organization settings. The follow option disappears from your public page and your events, and the followers you already have are kept in case you turn it back on.
